Kilve Court – Kayak Lake Construction

Kilve Court is a residential outdoor education centre in Somerset run by Support Services for Education. As part of their service, they required a facility for water-based activities such as canoeing, raft building and swimming.

Ivel Aquatics ltd were appointed as main contractors to carry out the task to construct a brand-new on-site lake to facilitate all the activities required, including kayaking.

The kayaking lake itself was approximately 4500sqm in size and is accessed each end via two adjoining slipways. A pathway was constructed to join both the slipways and the kayak store.

The lake itself is lined with a Firestone EPDM PondGard lake liner complete with and underlay overlay polyfelt matting. As you can see from the images the liner has been surcharged creating a very natural looking lake.

The margins were planted using pre-established coir pallets which consisted of a variety of mixed native species of aquatic plants.

A borehole and pump system were also incorporated with the construction to enable a water top system.

All materials used on this kayak lake construction in Somerset can be supplied and installed by Ivel Aquatics ltd.
