Serpentine Lake Habitat & Swan Island Project – Hyde Park, London

IVEL Aquatic Engineering are proud to be carrying out ongoing habitat improvement works at the Serpentine Lake in Hyde Park, London, on behalf of The Royal Parks. These projects form part of a wider ecological enhancement programme continuing throughout 2026 and 2027.

The works include the design and installation of bespoke floating swan islands and aquatic habitat bays to encourage wildlife, increase biodiversity, and provide safe nesting environments for waterfowl across the lake.

The swan islands have proven to be hugely successful, with two pairs of swans now actively nesting on the islands. Following the success of the initial installations, the team also returned to install upgraded and more robust anti-grazing protection cages to further protect the planted habitat areas from waterfowl grazing.

Each habitat structure was carefully built using durable timber framing, floating systems, woven natural willow edging, and aquatic planting zones designed to integrate naturally within the landscape of Hyde Park while supporting long-term ecological growth.
